John,

I'm filming action shots in a raquetball court. I have to use a webcam
so I can mount the camera to the wall and feed it into my computer. Can you suggest a webcam that will provide decent quality?

Thank you,
Brian Howard

@Gene: With money being no object, I would recommend the Nikon D3 and a couple of their f/2.8 lenses, starting with the 70-200mm.

I'm a high school sports shooter with a Nikon D-70 and starter lenses. I'm looking to move into college/university shooting with maybe a professional event once-in-a-while. What should my next camera and lens purchases be?

Richard, My flash is always on camera. I generally use my 550ex with a Sto-fen omnibounce and keep the flash head angled at about 60 degrees. If I'm using the ETTL metering mode on the flash, I generally have the flash dialed down at least one full stop and maybe a little more in some cases. I use the flash for fill light instead of a primary light source. Recently I have been experimenting with no flash for basketball, but I do shoot in some gyms where this is just impossible. I never have had a complaint about using my flash in basketball. Certain arenas don't allow flash, but in my case, that generally only involves state championship games, which I don't see that many of...

I am an amature shooting my daughter's high school basketball. Equipment is Canon 30D with 70-200 2.8 IS lens. Most of the gyms the girls play in are more like caves! Question: Is your flash on the camera or off camera? Doesn't the flash annoy the players...especially if you are on the baseline?.....If you are using off camera flash...where do you place the the flash unit(s)?...any advice would be greatly appreciated...thank you.

I've been shooting indoor lacrosse games for the last few years, and finally got a lens that can help alleviate the chronic lighting issues inherent at indoor arenas (ISO 800-1600 @ f/2.8). I learned by trial and error about sports photography. Your article covers all the best advice - well done, and thank you. Cheers, Sandra.
