Cold Morning
Jan 2nd, 2008 by John Setzler

I believe we have experienced our coldest morning of the winter season so far. It was 24 degrees this morning in Hickory, North Carolina. The water in the bird bath was frozen solid. According to the forecast, it’s going to be down to 17 degrees tonight and tomorrow night. The highs won’t get out of the 40s today or tomorrow, but Friday is supposed to see mid-40s during the day. I thought the above photo would be a good choice for my “Project 366″ photo-a-day series. I shot this with my Olympus point and shoot camera.
I do shoot a lot of sports, and I have sports assignments for the next three nights, but I’m hoping to avoid sports as much as possible for the Project 366 photos. I’m sure there will be some days where I have no choice due to time constraints, but until then, I’m looking for inspiration outside of the sports arenas.
Don’t forget to stop by my new photography discussion forum. It’s free and open to the public!
Nice shot. Man, it’s colder in NC than in Denver this morning. The high today in the mile high is 53! A heat wave. There is still about 6 inches of snow on the ground and my street is covered with ice…should thaw over the next few days. I shot an assignment, (http://armesphotography.blogspot.com/2007/12/loveland-ski-area.html )the other day and it was 1, not 2 or 3 but 1! My Mark II’s starting acting pretty weird, exposure was way off, batteries died, hands froze. It was a great assignment and I’m not being sarcastic!
