Why Should I Vote?
Why should I vote? The North Carolina primaries are not until May. I’m a registered Republican and the presidential nominee from the party has been selected. Why would North Carolina even hold a Republican primary (** for president**)? Would it not be a good idea to cancel the remaining Republican primaries (** for president**)? In North Carolina, I can’t switch over and vote in the Democrat primaries since I’m registered as a Republican. I would have to change my registration in order to do that, and registrations have to be changed at least 30 days prior to election day.

I modified the contents of this post on 3/8/2008. Some local political groups who are campaigning against a local politician rather than for their own candidate in the congressional race are misrepresenting my idea behind this post, so I needed to clarify myself. I have read through their material and will be back with more about their mudslinging later :)

JOHN: The reason you go vote–this year or any year–is to nominate the absolute best candidate possible to represent the Republican Party. If you know Mr. McHenry’s background as I do, then you know he’s one of the most corrupt public officials in the country.
By contrast, Lance Sigmon of Newton is more mature (49 years old), a 21-year veteran of the Air Force JAG Corps, a retired lt. col., an attorney for military criminal defendants. He is conservative down to his very core, understands “family values” and marriage, because he has a wife and two teenagers, and in general, has had a variety of life experiences McHenry has never had. Anyone who looks at the two candidates side-by-side can logically come to only one conclusion–to vote for Lance.

Dennis Benfield » Thanks for your comments. My original post was not intended as an endorsement for anyone. The heart of the matter is that my vote for the Republican presidential nominee doesn’t matter at this point. As for Patrick McHenry, he wasn’t my first choice, but I voted for him after he won his primaries. I haven’t made up my mind on the upcoming election in that race yet.
Vote on the rest of the ticket. They don’t get the publicity, but they are critical. That came out so preachy, and I know you know that, but I just wanted to encourage you to vote.
