In the Dugout

I’m not really sure why I started doing this, but I have been snapping some impromptu photographs in the dugout during baseball games. I have been shooting these photos with my Canon PowerShot G9 camera. Sometimes the people know I’m pointing my camera, and other times they don’t. The above photo is [...]

A Farewell?

As mentioned in yesterday’s post, our local baseball hero, Madison Bumgarner, showed up with the Augusta GreenJackets tonight to face off against the Hickory Crawdads at L.P. Frans Stadium in a Saturday night double-header. Madison pitched five innings tonight, giving up one earned run (a lead-off home run by Hickory’s Albert Laboy), three walks, [...]

Homecoming v2

Tonight was to be a second homecoming of Caldwell County golden boy Madison Bumgarner. Madison was drafted by the San Francisco Giants (first round - 10th overall) in the 2007 draft at the age of 18 years old. In reality, Madison was only 17 when drafted. He didn’t turn 18 until last [...]

Today’s adventure was a local event called “Bluegrass in the Park” held at the Henry Fork River Park in Hickory, North Carolina. I had never been to this park before, but after going there today, I plan to visit it more frequently. It’s one of those places that I can go on a [...]

Some camera owners uses these cameras for nothing more than creating family and vacation memories, and others take artistic and professional approaches to the art. I have lots of online friends who [...]

Nostalgic Value

Kodak Bantam Special (Purchased in 1937)

This is the prize of my camera collection. It’s a Kodak Bantam Special that my grandfather purchased new in 1937. I have the original box, manual, leather case, and sales receipt. He paid $109.00 for this jewel in 1937. According to an online inflation calculator, that [...]

The Mayberry Deputy

On Sunday afternoon, Hickory Crawdads baseball fans at L.P. Frans Stadium were entertained by David Browning a.k.a. The Mayberry Deputy. Mr. Browning’s uncanny resemblance to the late Don Knotts, coupled with his Knotts voice and antics, kept everyone laughing during Sunday’s game against the Asheville Tourists.
I wandered into the home side dugout [...]

Fireworks are simply fun to photograph. You always get something different no matter how many times you open the shutter. This photo came from last night’s fireworks display at L.P. Frans Stadium after the baseball game between the Hickory Crawdads and the visiting Asheville Tourists. The Hickory Crawdads will be having fireworks [...]
