I think that American Legion baseball is almost over for me this summer. I covered the last games for the Taylorsville and Caldwell teams on Friday. Both teams were swept 3 games to 0 in a best of five series. The only local team that is left in the playoffs is the Burke County team, who was leading their opponent 2 games to 1 before tonight’s game. If they won tonight, I’m not sure when or where their next game will be. If they lost tonight, they will play in Morganton on Sunday, and I’ll probably be sent to photograph it.

The Caldwell team has gone deep into the playoffs for the last few years, but it just wasn’t meant to be this year. I may end up with a break in high school level sports for a while. I’ll be rounding out the summer with minor league baseball until the local high school football season cranks up in mid August.
