Sunday Afternoon in the Park

July 13th, 2008
Henry Fork Park - Rain

Sunday afternoons this summer are usually dedicated to studying. I’m wrapping up a mini-semester of radiation physics at the moment, and our tests generally fall on Monday. Today is no exception. Henry Fork River Park has a huge covered area with metal picnic tables, and it makes a great place for me to study, mainly because there are power outlets scattered about that allow me to stay longer than my laptop battery can handle.

About 30 minutes after I arrived at the park today, A rather violent thunderstorm that lasted for about an hour or so rolled through town. The sound of the rain on the metal roof of the covered area was almost deafening, which allowed me to get a little distracted from my studies. Fortunately, I had my small camera in my pocket.

Each of the eight gutter downspouts on the covered area were flowing at full capacity during the height of the storm. The water from the downspouts dug rather deep holes in the gravel.

Luckily, the covered area is large enough that positioning myself with my books and laptop computer near the center kept me dry…

I enjoyed the afternoon even though I didn’t get all of the studying completed that I had hoped for. The good thing is that I still have plenty of time this evening to wrap that up for tomorrow’s test.
