Rivalries
Friday night grid iron rivalries run deep in this area, and tonight was no different. The football game between the Newton-Conover Red Devils and the Maiden Blue Devils is always an intense contest. The defending state champion Red Devils hope to play to that level of excellence again this season, so they were a little stunned tonight when Maiden put up the first 6 points on a fumble recovery that went back for a touchdown. Unfortunately for Maiden, those 6 would be only half of the 12 total the put up offensively against a Red Devils offense that scored 53 points...
The weather tonight was rather ugly. It rained most of the evening, but all the local conference games played except for the Hickory vs Hibriten match up in Lenoir. I think that was going to be one of the better games this week. It has been postponed until Monday night.
