Fireworks and Test Prep

I survived my first week back to school for the summer term. My schedule this summer is the most difficult I have had so far where time is concerned. I’m going to have to make some changes in my personal routine to cope with the additional time in class and clinical. That will take a little getting used to.

The video clip here is from the fireworks show at the Hickory Crawdads (Single-A minor league affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates) baseball game on Friday night. I’m still having fun with the video camera :)

I have my first test in RAD-122 on Wednesday, and it covers a good bit of material, but I think I’m going to be ready for it… hopefully. This instructor is the department head and his test questions are often quite tricky. I got my first B since I started back to school in his RAD-121 class during the spring semester. I was close to an A, but didn’t quite make it. My average was somewhere between 91 and 93, but I don’t know exactly what it was.

I’m out of school today for the memorial day holiday, but I have my normal clinical rotation tomorrow…

Positioning Videos for iPod

Radiographic Positioning Videos for iPod:

I have reformatted my radiographic positioning videos for use on the iPod. You can find these video files by clicking on the POSITIONING VIDEOS link on the right side of this page under the PAGES heading. If you find any problems with these videos, please let me know. Check back in the future for additions.

These files are in .MP4 format for compatibility with Apple’s iPod line of products.  I can’t guarantee that they will run on other portable devices.  These videos will run on your PC with the help of Apple’s QuickTime (free software).

A Day Off

Well, we got a little snow overnight and this morning, and school is closed. One of the interesting things here is that today was supposed to be a clinical day, and we’re not allowed to go to clinical if school is closed for weather or a holiday. It was snowing when I went to bed last night, so I got up at 7am this morning and checked the school’s website to find the message that classes had been canceled for the day, and then went back to bed for a few hours… The overnight lows tonight are supposed to be below freezing, so there’s a possibility of another cancellation or possible delay for school tomorrow, which is another clinical day for me…

The Videos

One of my goals this semester is to video tape make videos of our positioning labs when the instructor is demonstrating new positioning techniques.  It’s unfortunate that I couldn’t start this process at the beginning of our program, because we have already been through a lot of the positioning, including the chest, abdomen, upper, and lower extremities.  I don’t know if I can make it happen or not, but if I end up with extra time in lab on Mondays this semester, I may try to go back and make videos of some of those routines.
