ONLINE PHOTOGRAPHY COMMUNITIES
As a photographer, I enjoy participating in online communities with others who share my interests. Most of these communities contain a wealth of great information and inspiration…
BetterPhoto.com - The Better Way to Learn Photography
Digital Photography Review - dpreview.com
DPChallenge - A Digital Photography Contest
Fred Miranda - fredmiranda.com
WHERE I BUY MY STUFF
I’m not one to spend a lot of time shopping around for camera gear and accessories. When I first got started in photography, I did do some shopping, but I always came back to the same place to make my purchases. I can’t tell you how impressed I have been with the service and products I have purchased here:
B&H Photo - The Professional’s Source
MPIX.COM - An excellent place to buy prints
Printroom - Another source of printing (haven’t tried yet but I intend to)
PODCASTS:
My iPod is one of the most useful tools in my ‘gear’ collection as a photographer. There are a lot of great free podcasts out there that I enjoy listening to regularly.
LensWork - Photography and the Creative Process
This is my favorite podcast. It’s short, concise, and full of thought-provoking discussion by Brooks Jensen, the Editor of LensWork Publishing. It’s also available via iTunes.
The Candid Frame - Ibarionex Perello
This podcast focuses on interviews with photographers. The content is excellent. It’s also available via iTunes.
The Camera Position - Jeff Curto
Jeff’s discussion in this podcast also revolves around the creative aspects of photography. This is an enhanced podcast that includes images. It’s also available on iTunes.
Photo History Lectures - Jeff Curto
Jeff Curto is an instructor at the College of DuPage, and this podcast is audio of his History of Photography classes. In my opinion, it’s one of the most useful podcasts I have ever listened to. It’s also available on iTunes.
This podcast comes out weekly and it seems to be directed more towards gear-heads. I haven’t been listening to this one very long yet. Some of it is quite entertaining, but it seems a little lacking in the art of photography and overpowering in the drool factor over equipment.
